FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How long should my hair be if I want to donate it?
A: Hair length should ideally be 12 inches long but for now, Cuts Against Cancer can accept hair donations that are shorter than that provided that it can be tied into a ponytail. Loose hair cannot be accepted.
Q: Can I have my hair cut in any salon or are there specific salons?
A: You can have your hair cut in your preferred salon. You just need to inform your hair dresser that you are planning to donate your hair and remember to keep it in a ponytail. Heads up: Louis Phillip Kee is giving a 15% discount if you avail of their haircut services between September 23 - October 21, 2014. Just let them know you're planning to donate your hair.
Q: How do I package my hair donation and where can I send it?
A: Place the ponytail, kept intact with the elastic band, in a zipper-lock bag and seal tightly. Please ensure that the ponytail is completely dry before sending. Place the plastic bag with the ponytail in a padded or plastic envelope and send to your nearest Human Nature branch.
Q: If my hair is colored and chemically treated, can I still donate it?
A: Yes, Cuts Against Cancer will accept any hair type and condition, including grey and white hair.
Q: Is the September 22 hair drive open to everyone?
A: Yes, the event is open to the public provided that you were able to secure an appointment schedule before September 22. Walk-ins will only be accommodated if there’s an open slot, but there’s no guarantee that we can accommodate as we will give priority to those with appointment schedule.
Q: Is this an all-women’s event?
A: No, men and kids alike can donate their hair if they want.
Q: Can I still donate my hair even after the event?
A: Yes, Cuts Against Cancer accepts hair donations all year round. You just need to ship your cut hair directly to them (follow steps on how to package hair) at Papemelroti c/o Donate Your Hair Today – Address: Korben Place 91 Roces Avenue 1103 Quezon City, Philippines Tel. (632) 375-1069, 412-6487,
Q: What are the steps needed in making a hair donation?
• Clean, shampoo and/or condition hair, without any styling, hairspray or additional hair products.
• Gather hair at the nape of the neck.
• Create a ponytail with an elastic band. Make sure the band is tight around the hair to keep the hair together after cutting. If it comes out of the band, it won’t be included in the donation. A second hair band can be placed around the middle of the ponytail to keep the hair together.
• Ensure that the elastic band is just below where you want to cut your hair.
• Cut the hair just above the elastic band so that the elastic band remains on the ponytail after cutting and keeps cut hair together. Do not wash or style the ponytail in any way after it has been cut off.
• Place the ponytail, kept intact with the elastic band, in a zipper-lock bag and seal tightly. Please ensure that the ponytail is completely dry before sending.
• Place the plastic bag with the ponytail in a padded or plastic envelope and send it to your nearest Human Nature branch. For more information, visit Cuts Against Cancer's official page.
