The Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Mabuhay Temple and the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) invite the public to a free lecture entitled 'The Practice of the Three Acts of Goodness in the Sutra of the Eight Realizations' by Ven. Miao Jing, Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Philippines head abbess, at the Prajna Lecture Hall of the Mabuhay Temple on June 24, 2012. Registration starts at 9:30 am.
Ven. Miao Jing will talk on how the practice of doing good deeds, saying good words and thinking good thoughts as advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, FGS founder, relates to the Sutra of the Eight Realizations, one of the most important scriptures in Mahayana Buddhism. The first part of the Sutra even states: “For all disciples of the Buddha: morning and night, hold them in your mind, and chant them often, these eight realizations of great beings.”
This talk is part of the Buddhist Lecture Series that is held every 4th Sunday of the month at the Mabuhay Temple. The activity aims to supplement classes especially in Buddhist philosophy, Eastern philosophy and Ethics.
To cover a wider range and involve other sectors in our society, the lecture series encompasses an analysis and application of Buddhist concepts in various fields such as community engagement, peace studies, environment and sustainable development, interfaith dialogue and aesthetics among others. Lectures are presented by our monastic, invited guest speakers from the academe and temple volunteers.
